LIMIT: bodies and visibility
LIMIT is a visual series questioning the boundaries of normality imposed on bodies and who is made visible or excluded.

From life to creative practice
İlker Ortaç does not reduce his experience of disability to a story inviting pity or applause. How bodies are seen, who is excluded and who defines normality are central questions in his artist statement.

From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I imagine removing the invisible ruler that tells a body where it should begin and end. A shoulder, a beard and an item of clothing should not have to agree. I enlarge their encounter, then leave it somewhere the gaze cannot immediately escape.
Working around LIMIT: bodies and visibility, my attention returns to this detail: LIMIT is a visual series questioning the boundaries of normality imposed on bodies and who is made visible or excluded. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
In the final passage, I imagine returning the work to its own context. I leave room for reading a page, looking at a frame or watching the film beyond the narrative assembled here.
