From life to creative practice
İlker Ortaç’s involvement with cinema extends beyond drawing faces: he made short films and acted. During sociology graduate study at Mimar Sinan, he presented a thesis on disability in Turkish cinema and left after the jury meeting. That history provides a field of inquiry alongside the portrait.

From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I approach this face as a single frame drawn out of a longer scene. I imagine what might happen just before and after it, then pull those explanations back. I want the gaze left in the frame to carry tension without giving away the whole story.
Working around Sıkışmışlık, my attention returns to this detail: Sıkışmışlık appears in the artist’s about page as a six-part 2019 documentary series from 140journos / BluTV. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
In the final passage, I imagine returning the work to its own context. I leave room for reading a page, looking at a frame or watching the film beyond the narrative assembled here.
