From life to creative practice
İlker Ortaç’s involvement with cinema extends beyond drawing faces: he made short films and acted. During sociology graduate study at Mimar Sinan, he presented a thesis on disability in Turkish cinema and left after the jury meeting. That history provides a field of inquiry alongside the portrait.

I approach this face as a single frame drawn out of a longer scene. I imagine what might happen just before and after it, then pull those explanations back. I want the gaze left in the frame to carry tension without giving away the whole story.
Working around Havar: short film, my attention returns to this detail: Havar belongs to İlker Ortaç’s short-film selection. This guide links to the player for this specific film.
