From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
Before sitting down with a face, I often imagine a rhythm moving through it. I want the line to stumble occasionally, like an uneven drumbeat. When I make the face too tidy, it feels as if I have erased the unease that held it here.
Working around Bob Dylan Sunglasses Portrait, my attention returns to this detail: Dark sunglasses hide Dylan’s eyes beneath his hat. Their hard edge becomes the portrait’s clearest interruption. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
I imagine the image on a walking body. I am interested in the face creasing or partly disappearing with movement, without giving up every detail at once.
How the drawing works on this product
On a black T-shirt, the image is read against clothing and moves with the wearer. A portrait that fills a print can occupy a smaller area on the chest. Compare the product mockup with the drawing page to understand which parts of the composition remain visible.
