From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I begin by circling the small irregularity that stops me in an image. Rather than explaining the whole thing immediately, I try increasing the weight of that detail. Putting another line beside an overly tidy area feels like letting the image speak again.
Working around The Uncle, my attention returns to this detail: The Uncle’s long face fills almost the whole image. Warm lines and cool side marks make an uneven outer edge. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
I imagine a mug turning in someone’s hand. One side of the image disappearing as another emerges adds a small sense of time to the portrait; I consider its placement through that turn.
How the drawing works on this product
The curved mug surface changes how the drawing is seen. A front view can show only part of the printed area, while the handle fixes the way the object is held. Use the Etsy photographs to compare the visible design on each side rather than assuming a full wraparound print.
