From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
Looking at a writer’s face, my mind drifts toward the edge of the text. I imagine library order, lines of code and a sentence escaping that order at the same table. I want to leave a little excess in the drawing, somewhere a reader or viewer can linger.
Working around Kurt Vonnegut, my attention returns to this detail: Vonnegut’s glasses, curls and mustache overlap at the center. A dark field pushes the pale face forward. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
I imagine unwritten sentences beside the cover. Placing the drawing on a notebook suggests that the image will become a neighbour to someone else’s notes.
How the drawing works on this product
