From life to creative practice
İlker Ortaç’s involvement with cinema extends beyond drawing faces: he made short films and acted. During sociology graduate study at Mimar Sinan, he presented a thesis on disability in Turkish cinema and left after the jury meeting. That history provides a field of inquiry alongside the portrait.

From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I approach this face as a single frame drawn out of a longer scene. I imagine what might happen just before and after it, then pull those explanations back. I want the gaze left in the frame to carry tension without giving away the whole story.
Working around Jim Jarmusch, my attention returns to this detail: Sunglasses cross Jarmusch’s pale face beneath swept hair. Fine lines distinguish this subdued version from the red print. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
Then I imagine leaving the image alone on screen. I look for the detail that keeps its weight when reduced, thinking of its passage to another surface through that same attention.
How the drawing works on this product
A digital listing supplies a file rather than a framed object. The preview is not evidence of the downloadable file’s pixel dimensions or its largest suitable print size. Read the file details and usage terms, then compare the image ratio with the paper and frame you plan to use.
