From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I begin by circling the small irregularity that stops me in an image. Rather than explaining the whole thing immediately, I try increasing the weight of that detail. Putting another line beside an overly tidy area feels like letting the image speak again.
Working around Ulay, my attention returns to this detail: Long hair and beard hold Ulay’s face against a muted field. Restrained color keeps attention on the head’s shape. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
Then I imagine leaving the image alone on screen. I look for the detail that keeps its weight when reduced, thinking of its passage to another surface through that same attention.
How the drawing works on this product
A digital listing supplies a file rather than a framed object. The preview is not evidence of the downloadable file’s pixel dimensions or its largest suitable print size. Read the file details and usage terms, then compare the image ratio with the paper and frame you plan to use.
