From life to creative practice
After studying librarianship at Ankara University and spending years writing code, İlker Ortaç turned toward novels, stories and screenplays. Writer portraits can be read within this shared literary field, while a writer’s face is not treated as a substitute for the writing.

From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
Looking at a writer’s face, my mind drifts toward the edge of the text. I imagine library order, lines of code and a sentence escaping that order at the same table. I want to leave a little excess in the drawing, somewhere a reader or viewer can linger.
Working around Charles Bukowski Line Portrait, my attention returns to this detail: Bukowski appears in spare lines and a little pale color. Empty space distinguishes this treatment from purple-on-red. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
I imagine the distance from which the print will be seen on a wall. Watching lines scatter up close and reunite from farther away, I look for room for the image to breathe inside its frame.
How the drawing works on this product
A paper reproduction gives the image a fixed physical scale without being the original drawing. The paper size and the size of the printed image are not necessarily identical. Check the Etsy listing for margins, paper details and frame inclusion before arranging a place on the wall.
