From life to creative practice
İlker Ortaç’s involvement with cinema extends beyond drawing faces: he made short films and acted. During sociology graduate study at Mimar Sinan, he presented a thesis on disability in Turkish cinema and left after the jury meeting. That history provides a field of inquiry alongside the portrait.

From the studio: a creative reconstruction
A first-person creative reconstruction drawing on the biography and artworks.
I approach this face as a single frame drawn out of a longer scene. I imagine what might happen just before and after it, then pull those explanations back. I want the gaze left in the frame to carry tension without giving away the whole story.
Working around Jim Jarmusch: Red Portrait, my attention returns to this detail: Jarmusch’s dark glasses cross a red-washed face. This warm print is kept separate from the gray-lined digital portrait. In the next passage, I imagine pulling back anything that weakens that encounter and leaving the areas holding its tension open for longer.
I imagine the distance from which the print will be seen on a wall. Watching lines scatter up close and reunite from farther away, I look for room for the image to breathe inside its frame.
How the drawing works on this product
A paper reproduction gives the image a fixed physical scale without being the original drawing. The paper size and the size of the printed image are not necessarily identical. Check the Etsy listing for margins, paper details and frame inclusion before arranging a place on the wall.
